What is LED lumen maintenance and why is it important?

Over time, a light bulb’s light output diminishes, and this diminishment is quantified as the LED lumen maintenance. Light bulb life is defined as the percentage of initial lumens that the LED light bulb generates at the end of its life cycle (L70). Use this LED Optical Aging Test Instrument to find out how long an LED will maintain the same brightness level as the day it was placed. Only a maintenance test instrument for LED lumens is used for this process.
An industry standard, LM-80, was developed in 2008 by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) to assist LED product users in their evaluations. As an example, LM-80 does not give guidelines or suggestions for estimating or extrapolating lumen maintenance beyond the timeframe of these observations.
The IES issued TM-21: Lumen Degradation Lifetime Estimation Method for LED Light Sources in 2011 to meet this extra level of advice

LM-79 vs. LM-80: A Comparison
Methods for doing electrical and photometric measurements of SSL products have been certified by the LM-79 standard. It includes the following topics:
1. The overall flow (light output)
2. The use of electricity
3. Efficacy is the most important factor.
4. The distribution of intensity

The LM-79 test findings are the source of the five metrics necessary for the LED Lighting Facts label.
When it comes to measuring LED packages, arrays, and modules’ lumen maintenance, LM-80 is the official approach. LED light sources may be measured using the LM-80 technique at different temperatures. With 10,000 hours as the ideal testing duration, the minimum testing time is 6,000 hours, according to this standard. A minimum of 1,000 hours of LM-80 testing is required as well.
On the other hand, the LM-80 test procedure does not give an estimate of the LED’s predicted life or LED lumen maintenance beyond the test results; this is addressed by the TM-21 test procedure. To allow for speedier LED product development, the LM-80 standards end at 10,000 hours, despite the fact that 10,000 hours falls considerably short of the stated lifetimes of most SSL devices on the market today.

Maintenance by LED Optical Aging Instrument
LEDLM-80PL It is based on the Arrhenius model and created in accordance with international standards such as those set out by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for the LED lumen maintenance of the IES-LM-80/IES-LM-82/TM-21/GB2312-80 series.
Although the lifespan of LEDs varies depending on operating conditions and driving current, they typically have a 50K-hour lifespan. Due to the fact that LED light decays over time rather than instantaneously like conventional light sources, the LM-80 standard now includes L70, L50, and so on.

1. Keep track of the luminance vs time and the colorimetric parameters versus time changes.
2. Software can forecast the LED life if the light attenuation data is recorded and tested within a short period of time.
3. Use the Arrhenius Model in order to improve the accuracy of the test results.
