A high current arc ignition test equipment is used to determine the Ignition Performance Level Category in accordance with UL-746A. When large current attempts to “connect” two points in space that are only separated by a thin layer of insulation, the insulating material should prevent an electrical “arc” from forming. IEC 60947-1, BS EN 60950-1, and IEC 60335-2-40 all specify this as a necessary feature.
Therefore, it is essential for the electrical safety of all components like cables or any device using an insulating material like polymers or polycarbonates.
Insulating materials may be able to resist regular current but fail if an unexpectedly large current is passed; hence this test is essential. The insulation is classified in UL 746 A based on the time it takes to fail, which may be up to 300 seconds.
Working of high current ignition system
The efficiency of a high current arc ignition (HAI) system is measured in terms of the number of arc rupture exposures (normalized to the electrode type and shape and electric circuit) required to ignite a standard rate of application on the surface of a material.
The minimum rate at which you must provide an arc rupture exposure to a material’s surface before the substance catches fire. It developed the “Performance Level Categories” (PLC) concept to curb unwarranted assumptions of accuracy and fairness.
High current arc ignition testing at LISUN This machine simplifies the testing required by clause 32 of UL 746A. All necessary gauges are included in its Siemens PLC-based control system. It’s a beautiful piece of equipment that won’t break the bank, perfect for your quality assurance lab.
Switchgear manufacturers have grown to rely on us. Therefore, we’ve made it such that even the IEC 60947 – 1 clause 8.2.1.1.2 is accessible as a pre-programmed test process. Everything is made of extruded aluminium, and it has many fail-safe interlocks.
Salient features
1. To meet the standards of UL-746A and IEC 60947-1
2. It is possible to test the product’s materials continuously by applying a strong current through them.
3. Set mode and test mode are two of the panel’s operational modes.
4. Safety interlock switch equipped testing facility.
5. The feature that Turns Off Power in an Emergency
6. The overload trip protection kicks in when the mode is held in the specified position for 10 seconds.
Application
The high current arc ignition tester may determine how well an electrical or electronic device, home appliance, or material can withstand an arc. The device functions by simulating electric leakage on the insulator, which might result in varying polarizations of live components or between live components and grounded (earthed) metal components. This tool may also evaluate the insulator’s arc resistance performance at the specified voltage.
Application note
The insulator’s resistance to high-current arcing is evaluated by using this product. After the first test, further tests are performed on the UUT to evaluate any lasting damage caused by the high current arc.
