Introduction of electrical safety tester

The electrical safety tester is a special measuring instrument mainly used to detect whether electrical products leak electricity, whether they are well grounded, and whether they will harm personal safety. The main detection items include withstand voltage, leakage current, insulation resistance and grounding resistance.

I、 Principle and use of voltage withstand test
Voltage withstand test, also known as high-voltage test or dielectric strength test, is the most widely used in product process safety test. It is actually referenced in every safety standard, which shows its importance.
1. Test purpose:
Withstand voltage test is a non-destructive test, which is used to test whether the insulation capacity of products is qualified under the frequent transient high voltage. It applies high voltage to the equipment under test within a certain period of time to ensure that the insulation performance of the equipment is strong enough. Another reason for this test is that it can also detect some defects of the instrument, such as insufficient creepage distance and electrical clearance in the manufacturing process.
2. Instrument principle
The withstand voltage tester is mainly composed of AC (DC) high-voltage power supply, timing controller, detection circuit, indication circuit and alarm circuit. The basic working principle is to compare the leakage current generated by the tested instrument under the test high voltage output by the withstand voltage tester with the preset judgment current. If the detected leakage current is less than the preset value, the instrument passes the test. When the detected leakage current is greater than the judgment current, The test voltage is cut off instantaneously and an audible and visual alarm is given to determine the withstand voltage strength of the tested part.
The technical specifications of the withstand voltage tester mainly include its output AC / DC voltage and preset cut-off current. The analog indicating type withstand voltage tester usually uses the form of reference error to characterize its maximum allowable voltage error, such as a three-level voltmeter, which means that the withstand voltage tester of the voltmeter is determined in different ways.

II、 Leakage current test
It is only relative that insulators do not conduct electricity. As the peripheral environmental conditions change, virtually no insulating material is non-conductive. For any insulating material, when a voltage is applied at both ends, there will always be a certain current passing through. The active component of this current is called leakage current, and this phenomenon is also called insulator leakage.
Leakage current is actually the current flowing through the insulating part of the electrical circuit or equipment under the action of * and applied voltage. Therefore, it is one of the important signs to measure the insulation of electrical appliances and the main indicator of product safety performance. Limiting the leakage current to a very small value plays an important role in improving the product safety performance.
The leakage current tester is mainly composed of impedance conversion, range conversion, AC-DC conversion, amplification, indication device, etc. Some also have over-current protection, audible and visual alarm circuits and test voltage regulation devices. Their indicating devices are divided into analog and digital types.
The principle of measuring leakage current is basically the same as that of insulation resistance. Measuring insulation resistance is actually a kind of leakage current, but it is expressed in the form of resistance. However, since AC voltage is applied to the normal measurement of leakage current, the component of leakage current includes a capacitive component. The leakage current tester is used to measure the work independent leakage current generated by the working power supply (or other power supply) of the electrical appliance through the insulation or distributed parameter impedance, and its input impedance simulates the impedance of the human body.

III、 Insulation resistance test
Insulation resistance test is a conventional test type often used to understand and evaluate the insulation performance of electrical equipment. Usually, technicians test the insulation resistance of conductors, electrical parts, circuits and devices to achieve the following objectives:
1. Verify the quality of produced electrical equipment
2. Ensure that electrical equipment meets regulations and standards (safety compliance)
3. Determine the change of electrical equipment performance over time (preventive maintenance)
4. Determine the fault cause (troubleshooting)

Generally speaking, there are the following types of insulation tests: design test, production test, handover acceptance test, preventive maintenance test and fault location test. Different test types depend on different test purposes and application fields, and different insulation test processes also have different characteristics.
