The Definition and Test Requirements of RF LED Lights

Definition of RF LED lights:
RF LED light is emitting diode by converting the RF energy into light energy. LED lights are not always RF LED lights, for example, if the maximum working frequency of LED light is less than 9kHz, such as light with non-light source or directly supplied by DC power source (no drive power module), then it is not regarded as RF LED light.

RF LED lights certification and testing requirements:
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a KDB document about the certification and testing of RF LED lights: 640677 D01 RF LED Lighting v01. It has indicated that RF LED lamp should be certificated according to FCC Part 15B VOC, and testing method should be complied with ANSI C63.4: 2014. Further, the new FCC testing standards ANSI C63.29 for lamps being drafted: ANSI-ASC C63-Electromagnetic Compatibility standards development committee has a project to develop measurement procedures for lighting devices (C63.29). After the official version published, there will have a separate test standard for luminaires.

RF LED lamp includes two test items: AC power port conducted emission and radiated emission testing. The test requirements were based on FCC Part 15.107 and Part 15.109. It should be noted about the requirements for the upper limit of radiated emission testing frequency. According to 15.33 (b) regulations, if the product’s maximum operating frequency is less than 1.705 MHz, then the upper limit test frequency of radiated emission is 30MHz.

However, according to the requirements of this KDB file, regardless of whether the maximum operating frequency of RF LED lamp is less than 1.705MHz or not, the upper limit of radiation emission test frequency are 1GHz. In other words, it needs to be done 30MHz-1GHz radiated emission tests.

Therefore, Lisun has recently designed the EMI-9KC EMI receiver system, used for testing LED luminaires with frequency range at 9kHz-1GHz. It is produced by the full closure structure and strong electro-conductibility material, which has high shielding effect. Due to the new technology for the EMI Test System, it solved the instrument self-EMI problem. The test results are according to the international format test report. The EMI Test System EMI-9KC fully meets CISPRl6-1, GB17743, FCC, EN55015 and EN55022 standards.
