IP(International Protection) Level System

IP (INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION) protection level system is drawn up by the IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION), and will be classified in accordance with the characteristics of preventing the dust and the moisture. Here the external things include tools, fingers which can not touch the live part of the lamps and lanterns, so as not to get an electric shock. IP protection level is made up of two numbers, number 1 is the level of preventing the invasion of dust and other objectives from the lamps and lanterns, number 2 means the airtight degree of preventing the moisture and water from the lamps and lanterns, the greater the number is, the higher its protection level is, the two marks means the protection level such as table 1 and table 2.

Table 1: The first characteristic number which means the protection degree.

The first mark: The definition of protection level.

0: No protection or no special protection on the people or things outside.

1. To prevent the invasion of solid objects that are more than50 mmand prevent human body (such as palm) from accidentally touching the internal parts of the lamps and lanterns. To prevent the invasion of the external things of larger size (more than50 mmin diameter).

2. To prevent the invasion of solid objects that are more than12 mmand prevent the human fingers from touching the internal parts of the lamps and lanterns, prevent the invasion of the external things of medium size (large diameter12 mm).

3. To prevent the invasion of the solid objects of more than2.5 mmor prevent tools, electric wires or similar detail small external things, the diameter or thickness of which is greater than2.5 mmfrom contacting with the internal parts of the lamps and lanterns.

4. To prevent the invasion of the solid objects of more than1.0 mm, and prevent tools, electric wires or similar detail small external things, the diameter or thickness of which is greater than10 mmfrom contacting with the internal parts of the lamps and lanterns.

5. Dust prevention. To completely prevent the invasion of the external things, although cannot completely prevent dust from going into, but the invasion dust amount will not affect the normal work of the lamps and lanterns.

6. Dust prevention. To completely prevent the invasion of the external things and can completely prevent the dirt from entering.

Table 2: The second characteristic number which means the protection degree.

The second mark: The definition of protection level.

0: No protection
1. To prevent water from entering. The dripping water (such as water) won’t cause harmful effect on lamps and lanterns.

2. When lamps and lanterns tilt 15 degrees, they still can prevent water from invasion. When lamps and lanterns tilt to 15 degrees from vertical, drops won’t cause harmful effect on  lamps and lanterns.

3. To prevent the invasion of the spraying water, prevent the rain ,or prevent the spraying water in the direction of vertical angle of less than 60 degree from damaging the lamps and lanterns.

4. To prevent the invasion of the splash, prevent the water splash in all directions from damaging the lamps and lanterns.

5. To prevent the invasion of the injection water, prevent the injection of water from the nozzle in all direction from damaging the lamps and lanterns damage.

6. To prevent the huge wave invading the lamps and lanterns installed on the deck, prevent the damage due to the invasion of the huge wave.

7. To prevent the water invasion when the lamps and lanterns submerged in water for a certain time or ensure the water pressure in certain standards can ensure the not because water damage.

8. To prevent the water invasion when the lamps and lanterns sank into water indefinitely, in the condition of the specified pressure, to ensure no damage will be caused because of the water invasion.
